Spineless yucca grows as one or several thick, woody canes topped with rosettes of long, sword-shaped leaves. Staggered cane heights give it real sculptural presence, and unlike its spiky outdoor relatives, the leaves here are soft enough not to catch on clothing.

This is strictly a high-light plant — it needs a spot within about a metre of a south- or west-facing window, or a skylight, and will not hold up in a low-light interior. Its cane stores water, so it tolerates being watered monthly through winter, but soggy soil turns the cane mushy and rotten fast. Position it away from tight walkways, since the leaf tips are stiff enough to catch an eye or arm.

- Pull yellowing leaves cleanly downward from the cane to remove them
- If a cane tip goes mushy or soft, that's rot from overwatering — cut back below the rot to solid wood
- Cut back watering to monthly in winter; the plant prefers the dry heated air of an office over soggy soil
- If it's ever relocated away from bright light, move it back as soon as possible — leaf drop there is a placement problem, not a care one
