The Moss
Three live mosses, grown in Ontario.
Not dried, not dyed, not shipped in from overseas. Most gardens use two of the three, chosen for how the ground holds water.
Cushion moss (Dicranum)
Deep, rounded mounds. The texture people reach out to touch.

Flat living sheets that knit into an unbroken green floor.

Timing
Laid in the growing season. Left alone all winter.
Installed spring, summer and fall
The moss is harvested and laid live, so it goes in while the ground is workable. Winter installations aren't possible.
Winter takes care of itself
Moss is a native outdoor plant here. Once it's in, it goes dormant through the Ontario winter and comes back — no wrapping, no lifting, nothing to store.
Book ahead of the harvest
Outdoor harvesting runs through October, and larger gardens are planned against it. If you're thinking about next year, the conversation starts now.

Is this for indoors or outdoors?
Outdoors, for now. Courtyards, terraces, shaded entrances and garden beds.
Can you build us a moss wall?
Not at the moment. What we install is moss on the ground, outdoors — courtyards, terraces, shaded entrances and garden beds.
When can it be installed?
Spring, summer and fall are all good for installation. Winter is the one season a moss garden can't go in — the moss is harvested and laid live, so the work follows the growing season.
What happens to it over a Canadian winter?
Winter is fine for it. Moss lives outdoors through Canadian winters naturally, so the cold isn't a problem — the garden simply goes into dormancy and comes back. There's nothing to wrap, lift or store.
What kind of moss do you use?
Live moss in three varieties — cushion moss (Dicranum) for texture and mounding, forest moss for unbroken ground cover, and sphagnum for damper ground. It's grown and harvested in Ontario, not shipped in dried.
How much does a moss garden cost?

Will moss work in my space?
If the spot is shaded or part-shaded and holds a little moisture, almost certainly. Full sun all day is the one place it won't. Tell us where you're thinking and we'll give you a straight answer before anyone visits.
