In the heart of Liberty Village, Toronto, within the walls of an expertly restored historic brick building, something remarkable recently occurred. On a warm autumn day, we set out to convert this expansive office space into an inviting oasis with a strong emphasis on caring for tropical plants in Toronto. The setting was truly inspiring, reflecting the area's rich history of manufacturing, with exposed brick walls, high ceilings and exposed steel trusses. The restoration provided a sleek contrast to this history with modern touches like airy, open-concept spaces and glass-walled offices, creating an inviting atmosphere.
During our consultation discussions with the client, we understood their goal: to create a welcoming and refreshing workplace for their employees. They understood the numerous advantages of tropical plants that extend beyond aesthetics, prompting them to seek our expertise in indoor plant maintenance in Toronto. Living tropical plants not only added vibrancy to the environment but also contributed to the well-being of the occupants, improving psychological and respiratory health. Installation day was the culmination of our efforts. Marie skillfully created a border of geometrically distinctive Sansevieria Trifasciata, resembling an otherworldly super-sized grass hedge, while Andrea transplanted an existing Monstera Deliciosa into a vintage terra cotta pot from Benji's historical collection, complementing the building's dual aesthetic. A colonnade of Aglaonema was positioned along a large artist's mural, culminating with an art display, a long 'red carpet' gallery adjacent to many rows of workstations and lounge areas.
Our plant selection was purposeful. The iconic Ficus benjamina “Weeping Fig”, one of our signature plants, took center stage at the reception. Its impressive presence near the large window gave the sensation of entering an orchard or arboretum, reaffirming our moniker as Toronto's tropical plant experts. Several Ficus lyrata “Fiddle-leaf fig” placed strategically near large windows gave reminders of a tropical outdoors. A second Ficus benjamina contributed to defining space between the many rows of workstations and the lounge areas within the large hall.
Rotating floral arrangements placed in key spaces at reception and the coffee bar area added a touch of natural elegance to the environment. The vibrant blooms not only brightened up these focal points but also served as inviting accents, inviting guests and employees to pause for a moment of respite and appreciation. Their fresh colours and delicate fragrances subtly infused the air with a sense of lively vitality, creating a charming and inviting atmosphere throughout the space.
In spaces with limited natural light, we introduced Aglaonema and Sansevieria trifasciata “Snake plant” to bring life where the possibility for greenery was sparse. The Zamioculcas zamiifolia “ZZ” plant and Sansevieria cylindrica “Dragon Fingers”, with their striking geometric foliage, thrive in areas with low to medium natural light, providing a unique contrast against the exposed brick backdrop. Our commitment to ensuring the ongoing health of our client’s plants starts with a careful selection of the right plant for the right location.
The transformation was evident. As the space filled with living tropical plants, new points of interest emerged, captivating the eye and creating a comforting atmosphere. Breathing became easier, smiles more frequent, and the atmosphere shifted from hard-walled space to a relaxed environment with organic edges.
